The Ladies' Bridge
Our Women into Film course group were treated to a real gem this week. Karen Livesey joined us, director of The Ladies' Bridge, a wonderful documentary telling the story of the women who rebuilt Waterloo Bridge in London during the second world war. As with much of womens' history, their endeavours were hidden from most of us. The riverboatmen of the River Thames have however kept telling this tale to those London visitors who take a tour down the river. The true story of women welders, riveters, and engineers working for the Peter Lind company remained out of the press and the history books. This film made by Karen, and producer Jo Wiser is a brilliant attempt to bring this incredible achievement to light. They are currently working towards getting a Blue Plaque in place to commemorate the achievement of these women construction workers. Visit their website to find out more.
